Erased. Marginalized. Forgotten. A dialogue on Eastern modernity.

The architecture of Eastern Modernism polarizes: On the one hand appreciated and idealized, it is at the same time criticized as dysfunctional, unaesthetic and often dilapidated. But with the demolition of these buildings, not only gray substance disappears, but also a significant contribution to building culture, perspectives and the architectural manifestation of social ideals. An attempt at classification: Luise Rellensmann, architecture scholar and expert on “difficult” architectural heritage, and architect, author and expert on Eastern modernism Martin Maleschka will discuss the contemporary significance of GDR art-in-architecture and Eastern architecture for the city of today and tomorrow in a dialog at KVOST. Afterwards, Stephan Koal, Director of Kunstverein Ost, will give a guided tour of the current exhibition “Fernbeziehungen”.

In dialog in the wandering pop-up guest room: Luise Rellensmann, Professor of Building in Existing Contexts, Monument Conservation and Building Recording at the HU Munich and Martin Maleschka, architect and author.
